Windrose

Source: http://www.wcc.nrcs.usda.gov/climate/windrose.html

A Windrose is utilized by meteorologists to map wind speeds and the direction of their travel in specific areas. They show the winds frequency from where they are coming from. The length of the colored lines on the Windrose shows the frequency of them traveling from that location. This map from California shows that most of their winds head in the North West direction. Very few head in other directions.
