Statistical Maps

Source: http://www.halcrow.com/maps/products/mapping/statistical_map.htm

Statistical maps use colors and shapes to represent numerical data. There are 3 types of statistical maps, which we have already covered in this blog- choropleth maps, proportional circle maps, and dot distribution maps. The map above is an example of a choropleth statistical map. It uses different values of the color blue to represent the percentage of participation in school districts in New York City.

This map helps to visualize how many participants there were in different areas, and in this case, how affective their Common Cents Penny Harvest fundraiser was. In addition, the map key on this example has equal intervals.
