Population profiles show the gender make up of a population at a certain time. As you can see here, in 1990, the majority of the population in the U.S. was 25-34 years old. Right below that is 35-44 years old. The smallest amount of the population at that time was 20-24 years old. In 1970, the majority of the population was still the same age, however, the population wasn't as large.
