Flow Maps

Source: http://graphics.stanford.edu/papers/flow_map_layout/

Flow maps are used to show movement from one location to another. They can show anything from population movements over years, to products and where they ship. They are beneficial because they are not as cluttered and can be much easier to interpret. There is not as much to see and get distracted by.

The map I have included shows migration from California from 1995-2000. This map is focusing on the movement of individuals to different states from California, and where they moved to. Most people moved to the North East, mainly the New York area.
