Doppler Radar

Source: http://www.spc.noaa.gov/faq/tornado/doppler.htm

Doppler Radar is an important weather tool that our nation uses now that gives us an advantage at predicting and preparing for changes in our weather. It can tell us how fast a storm is moving into an area, and the strengths of winds. Christian Doppler is credited with discovering the "Doppler Effect", which is a change in frequency- which can be detected by our Doppler Radar System. This is something that is very common and is seen on all weather reports. The image I have included is of Oklahoma and it is showing an F5 tornado.
