Isohyets

Source: http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/AK0808/S00090.htm

Isohyets are maps with lines connecting points that share the same amount of rainfall. These maps are able to tell us the intensity of rain in different areas, and the distribution of it across our country. These lines do not show daily rainfall, but they do show monthly. In addition, they can show yearly rainfall. The map I have included has lines that are very close together, indicating change in the amount of rainfall for that area, and lines that are spread out, indicating that there is not much change in that area.
