Isopach

Source: http://www.kgs.ku.edu/Publications/Oil/primer08.html

Isopach maps are maps that use lines to connect dots in areas of equal rock thickness. Places all over the world have different land make-up and not all places have equal thickness of their ground. The map I have included is an image of contour lines on a isopach map showing areas of greater thickness than others. Like the other Isoline maps, when the lines are closer, there is more of a change in numeric data in that area. I chose this image because it gives a 3D side view to get an idea of what the lines are showing. This image from an aerial view looks like lines running in circles, yet when from the side you can see the make-up of the area, and which parts are higher, or in this case, thicker.
